Dear Mr. Leung,

We are a group of Canadians that have gathered Tuesday January 28, 2014 to exercise our freedom of association to demonstrate the incredibly insensitive and offensive comments made by Minister John Baird during a speech he gave to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, wherein he incorrectly referred to the Persian Gulf as the "Arabian Gulf."

Along with numerous international treaties and full scale international recognition, Canada's own education system has recognized and taught to Canadian students the correct name of Persian Gulf.

There has been tremendous uproar in the Canadian Iranian community in particular, where numerous letters and petitions have been drafted for the Minister Baird and our presence here today is in furtherance of those actions. 

We believe Minister Baird's use of the misnomer, "Arabian Gulf" was deliberate and nothing more than an attempt to insult not only Canadian-Iranians but Iranians all around the world. 

We are here today to display our discontent through peaceful protest and to demand an apology from Minister Baird. We thank you and your office very much for your understanding and support.
