To: The Right Honourable Justin Trudeau Dear Justin Trudeau, I am writing to address the concerns of individuals like myself within the Iranian-Canadian community and to once again call upon party leaders, government officials, and politicians to take note of our perspective. Within our community, a minority of individuals affiliated with and/or supportive of the Islamic Republic have wielded their resources to create challenges for the majority who have sought refuge from Iran. Certain students and offspring of regime leaders, strategically embedded within universities and civil institutions, have established media outlets and organizations under the pretense of promoting peace, diplomacy, solidarity, and dialogue. However, their true aim is to further the presence and influence of the Islamic Republic in Canada. These actors have managed to undermine the social involvement of active community members, leading to a withdrawal from social activities. Their tactics have been disturbingly successful, aiming to discourage and silence those who persist in their efforts to challenge the status quo, using the imposition of significant legal costs as a deterrent. Recently, the Iranian Canadian Congress (ICC), comprised of no more than 286 members, sent a letter to party leaders expressing concerns regarding the participation of certain Conservative Party members in the annual meetings of the Mujahideen (MEK) in Paris. The ICC's Board of Directors, over the past few years, has sought to bolster its own standing by leveraging the unpopularity of the Mujahideen (MEK) among Iranians. Concurrently, they endeavor to divert the attention of the Iranian community from the grave atrocities committed by a regime even more disreputable than the Mujahideen. It is essential to note that the ICC's charter underscores its commitment to non-partisanship and adherence to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Regrettably, the recent letter from the board of directors violates both these principles. In recent times, the activities of the ICC's Board of Directors have demonstrated an alignment with the interests of the Islamic Republic, revealing their intentions to the Canadian public. Following the closure of the embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, certain entities operating in its stead have unfortunately managed to access financial support from the Canadian government, utilizing funds derived from citizens' taxes to serve foreign government interests within Canada. I wish to emphasize that the ICC, with its membership of only 286 individuals, does not speak on behalf of or genuinely represent the Iranian community in Canada. I implore all political parties and the Canadian government to take into account the legitimate concerns of the Iranian community. I also urge you to exercise heightened caution when interacting with individuals, organizations, and media that align with the interests of the Islamic Republic. Sincerely, https://www.iccma.ca/articles/2023/230818_Letter_to_Politicians.htm
